Newcastle’s Christmas markets

Once again, the streets around Grey’s Monument will be buzzing with life during the weeks leading up until Christmas.  This year, the markets will be taking advantage of the space which has opened up with the redevelopment of Old Eldon Square to really bring the festive spirit into the heart of the city.

The Continental Market will start on Monday 24 November until Saturday 6 December.  Selling everything from tradional Russian dolls to French corduroy caps, scarves and dutch pancakes, the market shouldn’t be missed for your stocking fillers or for the wonderful food and drink on offer – especially the Bratwurst and Gluhwein.

The Christmas Market takes over on Wednesday 10 December and lasts for five days until Sunday 14 December.  This is your opportunity to stock up on those local Christmas goodies which truly make the season special – including gorgeous glass, handmade bags, local photos as well as jams, puddings, game, stuffing, luxury sweets and boozy Christmas cakes. The Christmas Farmers Market will be a part of this market on Friday 12 December.

But don’t worry if you miss out on both of these markets, there’ll also be Christmas Arts and Crafts fairs on 13 December and 20 December in the Grainger Market where local people will be selling handcrafted goods. This Victorian Grade I listed building will also host the Christmas Fairtrade Event on Saturday 6 December.

You can also unearth hidden gems from local artists, designers and jewellers together with the traditional stalls selling plants, clothing, sweets and toys at the Quayside Sunday Market every Sunday 9.30 – 4.00pm.

Quayside Sunday market

Our famous Sunday market

The Quayside sunday market is a vibrant and varied showcase for quality locally produced goods. Every Sunday you'll find an eclectic mix of people from artists, to designers and jewellers. And food producers, such as Northumberland Cheese, through to photographers, ceramic artists, and emerging fashion designers.

The market is a real complement to the Quayside's fabulous natural setting, world class cultural institutions and superb restaurants and bars, making it, once again, a must do destination and a great family day out.

Testament to the market’s importance to the region can be seen through comments received from a few well known names:

“With a history spanning more than 200 years, the Quayside Sunday Market is not only part of the heritage of Newcastle, but also the ever-increasing cultural side to the city. It has a great vibe and combined with what the Quayside offers, is a great family day out.” Robson Green.

“I used to visit the Quayside Market when I was younger and I’m really impressed with how it has changed and now looks. There are loads of stalls selling everything from locally made and home grown goods, to food to art.” Steven Taylor, NUFC.

The Quayside Sunday Market is on every Sunday from 10.00am until 4.00pm. For further information on the market or to enquire about taking a stall contact City Centre Partnership on 0191 277 1924
